" Ask the governor -- human Marjorie is online and on demand. For the whole country 96 will help."

" You're listening to exist and -- and 969 Boston talks and we are joined by Governor Deval Patrick thank you very much in -- state governor."

" Thank you very much for having me congratulations to both of you being on drive time -- well."

" Embarrass you but the word we heard from one of the newspapers. Wasn't last month you showed up at 1 o'clock to do is to show and we just we're here is that what that. -- and what's. You know that in the had an."

" And that didn't have -- governor pat you do mustache who is who just joined by David just contradicted the comprehensive study at the MBTA financial problems it safety problems. Scared me to death said he would be afraid it is and we're not right it would not ride the Red Line today because of these problems there. That's pretty scary stuff."

" Well I wouldn't go that -- the Red Line last nine and right -- to -- to the airport or at least it to the Silver Line to the airport. Two gave let them look what he has done for us is an enormous service. You can't know what. To fix unless we tell ourselves the truth about about. And has been very very hard until this report to get that truth from the MBTA time very very grateful to David. Our job now is to develop the plan to deal with the safety and the service issues in there. Of equal. Importance and -- safety takes -- ninety takes in nineteen hit because of the risk two. The concern for for life and limb. But via. Just a reordering. As. And reexamining that priority given to safety projects. Is a very very speaks at Ford and something that the news that. Leadership in mass that the new transportation entities got to take on and directing them to do that today."

" Our number 6178221969. Pound 96 tons of free call from Verizon. Wireless phone to stay on this for a minute governor is it to be fair to. -- said he wouldn't ride to be red line between L wife and Harvard it's still pretty scary from the report 51 projects classified as the danger to life or limb of passengers or employees the raw red line we just described of the of the UV with a water leakage problem try. -- moving out of alignment the report things presenting quote the possibility. A train derailment. What is an average for you say you would he said he wouldn't the person listening out there is gonna take the -- and I mean this here's how does he -- she make an informed decision about. Her kids safety her what are."

" I saw it I understand Percival who we're gonna have crews out at that particular. Site this morning. And there have been need to get the impression of him that the crews have. Not been concerning themselves with the adequate upkeep and maintenance of the of the system the problem is that the management hasn't been dealing with this chronic. Neglect of the system for a long time we have this list. Of backlights that there is no confidence that that's the right -- it's in the right order. And that's part of what does this report. Show shows so. There is a very dedicated. Workforce at the at the MBTA say like everyone else are gonna have to step up their game and in particular on that stretch between Harvard and -- wife which is that many sample used in the year. In the report form my own satisfaction. I will have crews out here to be just checked yes."

" You must amnesty Fareed we we get to the cause. What he characterized as it did just under again as the t.'s financial situations of or a private company would be accurate and now we're talking millions and millions of dollars here. And it seems to me it's gonna be some decision statewide and whether the taxpayers of Massachusetts are willing to support. Like we do with BMW RA the border resources that twenty years ago whenever it was what will be whether they're gonna support. Fixing. The teak is it looks to me like inevitable this is C revenue awards the dreaded tax word."

" Problem will personally every. Public transportation system is subsidized by the public that's what makes it public and every successful one is. Is subsidized. In meaningful ways but that's the wrong place to start due respect. I'm Marjorie in in my view and I think in -- is well. Until we can show the public. That there -- greater. Focus on service. On you know just making it run on time. Making it as comfortable as possible within the limits of the resources available that there is a culture of answers. Bet -- use them professionalism around the prioritizing of the safety. Issues is not that the that the -- is broke. They have a lot of resource but they don't have according to this report. On the right management of those resources to issue -- that they concentrating in the places they can have the greatest. Impact on the on the culture of safety on the practicality of a safety until that sort that is sorted out. I just don't think we hit is a case to be made to the public forum for a fare increase or or forum for some of the revenue source snap this up resumes. That the that the legislature will continue their commitment. After this that's fiscal year of kicking in an additional portion of the --"

" To keep Putin affairs we are for the time being one last thing on finances this mass dot department transportation thing that started November 1 the consolidation. In the abstract I totally love it concretely. Is gonna say I mean concretely. What is it gonna save us I'm assuming. Administrative overhead but in real dollars what's your projection what this means for people who were nervous always cuts and declining tax revenues myself."

" Well first of all it's already saved a quarter billion dollars 250. Million dollars and that's just in being able to. Working out those options tremendous interest rates on yeah enthusiast I never understood the list yet well they're hard to understand there there a they are kind of fiscal. Gimmick. Financial gimmick used in -- in the past him to put off. Risk until a later time later time is now. And and we were facing having to pony up. A lot of money that -- frankly the system couldn't afford state government and couldn't afford. And I'm very very proud that the secretary of administration and finance deacons Gonzales. Got involved in those negotiations himself and his resolve all five of them announced that that was a savings directly related. Because the case to be made was we had a we have professional organization and now that we didn't in the past that the case to mean it was very much related to two transportation. It tens of millions of dollars of savings just in moving. Employees to the state health care. System. -- off a hodgepodge of different frankly more expensive systems that we have and that's that's right now so remember that compounds over the over the years and then Jim in fairness -- get to give the organization chance this Atlanta and start to surface. Where the efficiencies. I can be can be captured nobody believes by the way that the efficiencies are enough. To deal with all of the needs in transportation. But the point is we gotta start the year before we start piling on new revenue and asking. The public to to contribute."

" Well you know it's an analogy and then we're gonna get your calls -- 61782219269. Pound 969 from a Verizon was on -- sort of analogous. To your lawn and mean one pejorative way but your motto through this whole reform before revenues kind of deal and we sold reform in three areas which we can discuss. Again today but at the end of the day being straight with the voters if all of the safety issues and reliability issues described are in play. But they'll -- said the -- again at the end of the day to stay solvent. They're gonna need either more tax dollars -- today he's again a gas tax is something or a -- increased at the end of the day that is -- we're looking at to have a solvent. He says tomorrow we not."

" At the end of the day we want a stable solvent issues today -- system and we want a safe. And the question is and by the way you know if we did nothing. There are projected fear increases over time right. But before we go near them for we start trying to -- fearing pieces that just to repeat myself. There are some things that I believe and I think David also believes in his -- in his report have to be done to begin to regain the confidence the public and so if you're asking me if there's ever gonna be a fear increased you know in five or six years. I can't answer. But is it gonna be -- fear increase in the next few know not as long as I had anything to do it because I think is a lot of work --"

" How to react when her -- mass DOT shirt says something like the gas tax is at least something we have to consider what resurrection."

" A look we tried to gas tax you know I I've I've proposed a gas tax there are others who proposed a gas tax -- was even. Even larger we thought about it and we light. The idea about 'cause. Under our constitution you can't divert the gas tax to something else it has to be dedicated. To transportation's it would be you know do it would be the temptations. For some other good idea minor members of the legislators -- legislatures to come along and and and use that money elsewhere but it would down insulin insulin and that we can talk about how we'd like it in the year. In the abstract we certainly not gonna have a gas tax. And an increase in the in the sales tax that's just unfair so the 22 riders into the general public in my. I'm so that the legislature chose the sales tax over the gas tax because it generates. And projected more incumbent that -- can be used for other public services and additions chance."

" 61782219269. -- 600 Verizon loss on the governor's jurors -- right before the hour. Governor will take some calls. Can we start a weekend ago Thomas calling from Bridgewater town --"

" I governor complex an amber. Having this forum com and executive branch manager. And I've seen in the aren't yet sir great thank you for your service thank you bought a com just the comment that I've seen my contributions to my benefits increased over 60% two years I haven't generate into and a half years. I gave back nearly 2% last year and I'm gonna give back 4% this year Jersey churlish. Yes sir and I'd like maybe you could comment to the rest of the people that are. So full of vitriol all. In describing. So managers in your executive branch in and maybe explain to our listeners. Other concessions you're looking for. Help close the budget gap and what opposition you're faced with in those concessions."

" Tom thank you so much for making them the point because I think that sometimes. The general public has this sort of abstracted view. A state workers. As calls -- those -- sitting around eating bon bons all all day and they're not collecting a -- A fact check in and cushy benefits in fact. The the managers such as yourself -- when I say managers' time I think you're -- is I -- that all the nine union. -- police. And so all the nine union police have definitely contributed to. Two trying to manage through these very tough times in the ways that you -- it and I don't take that lightly Tom I know. That that is an a hardship on and you and your family. And I appreciate that you willingness to step up this way notwithstanding the frustration and maybe even a little resentment in -- in the tone of your voice -- I I totally I totally get it. And what we're trying to do right now have been trying to do for some while. Is getting the same. Contribution level of contribution from the union employees as we have from. From the nonunion police that we asked the union employees for furloughs like. Nine need him police have taken including -- then. To forgo. There. There raises that contract that -- justice Tom and I. And two. And they've asked for some things in. In exchange and to consider it an early retirement program and also considered making no further changes in the state health care. Program for the next couple of a couple of years I think somewhere in there is the deal. They were working on trying to. To get and I think it's I think it's fear is not. Anything really different and lack. Workers in the private sector are being asked to use these days in terms of contributing. -- to try to hold it together so we can get through to the others. Other side and then. And all of us in an out of state and government to enjoy the fruits of country."

" Hey Tom thank you so much for your -- we appreciate it governor. The -- Jason is calling from Worcester JI Jason."

" I governor departure I -- the number one issue on your web site is shared parenting we had a non binding. Ballot initiative in 2000 pour in which 86% of voters approved -- parent thing. 37 states have share parenting. Why -- this -- keep giving tied up in the legislature and the legislature and what is your opinion on shared parenting."

" Jason one and choose say for the other listeners what shared parenting. It's just center."

" Eric is shared parenting is there -- presumed assumption that in a divorce. He parents will. And -- You can't be at their children that percent of the time. In this state about 85%. Is awarded full -- to -- to the mother and a lot of fathers its stock cut not getting it being their -- is much they -- that are so."

" And when you say it's the number one issue on my web site you mean it's the one where we get the most."

" Absolutely overwhelmingly. He gets the most the most its iMac and the most people supporting shared -- it's something that everyone clearly it's in the best interest of the children to be able to spend both. As much I would both parents as possible but it's still get tied up every year what is your opinion on it and and what how can we get this this pat."

" So the the way I think about shared parenting isn't is the and the way it's been X explain to me based -- the the advocates is that we have a presumption in law. That the best interest of the child will be taken into into account in any custody. Adler custody. Case but that as a practical matter. Dad's. Lose out more often -- now -- is that fair. Absolutely. And at least that's always been and -- presented to me and I know there have been bills. Filed there's another bill that's pending right now and it's interesting I'll always get that questions about why this or that bill. Hasn't moved in the legislature and -- wanna ask you why you haven't asked the legislature rather than that ran in the what I am gonna do you -- formed a task force around the -- because I don't think Jason. Having listen now to a lot of the advocates and also to some folks on -- in the courts that'd be used as. Simple as it is sometimes made out to beat him bunch of different sites to this to the story and I think there's some anxiety amongst some of members of the legislature of that step and out there. And being too. And it it in and get in essentially moving away. From a standard that is focused on the child. In favor of a standard that at least some of them feel it's focused more on me adults. And so I wanna get a group of folks together from past some of the chip painting advocate some of them. Opponents of of a change some of the folks from the court. Try to see if we can't find a yet some common ground and and if we can find some common ground -- easier to -- Jason thank you so much for your call governor. I'm Sean is calling from Ashford -- Sean."

" In -- governor I don't teach you. -- thanks right tackle our quick -- oil a day program right up on -- show that tell you that there are. In and -- Amanda speak end of the month. Who are the -- spent fifteen years in prison. Operating. Domestic terrorist group and you have capitalist call and I mean it they'd be. They did bottom dollar -- in New York. -- release that a gentleman and Boston lost a leg bombing. A manager at least a triple killed. People. And and LR as a taxpayer state and you Matt cameras being a state funded. Public school. There saying that men without money. So I want I would ask you you know maybe two. Contact the the administrators -- And it'll -- type arch and as he goes. That doesn't mean to me that there has no right to be speaking at a public university. And -- if it does a university that's one thing. But we're being paid for. But it wary of being a painful bite -- bite tax money and it and it and it stayed where he committed you know acquiring."

" We got it we coach on how about governor Jon you've got your information from where from -- the show -- as the site is the email note on this to get facts on the things on. Hold a few minutes Michael email back. And then we can follow up."

" Yeah and -- and no disrespect the question I don't know anything about it is you and you know he wanted to convey a message to the today UMass Amherst. Campus that Dan that you have strong feelings of Adam -- needed to do it and -- that Domonique I don't wanna comment on. Some man I don't know any of them to respect you."

" We do that for three hours every detail. You we're gonna get paid exactly we talk for a second before back to the polls you announce a week or so ago deep budget cuts on the 600 million dollar a problem revenues are declining if you can and in one package. Where is all the stand in terms of real impact on real people not hundreds of millions of dollars -- yet this economic summit a couple of days later what's the job picture is rapid roll into one. Action package and tell us where things are what the next six to twelve months looks like a very well."

" First of all we made do we make cuts because you're cast is new -- to balance the budge business. Economists and others are projected. A further revenue decline mostly. Most of which we've already experienced in this fiscal year in the first quarter we have to take it takes and again. And we made those decisions based on values. We think and I believe and I think the general public knows that there's -- value in public education that we did not. Make cuts in chapter seventy support for public schools that are aren't higher Ed without actually it is with the coming and they were held. Harmless we did not make cuts. We've made very limited and it cuts and human services because government I believe as a special role. And responsibility to -- to protect. The vulnerable that's our collective responsibility at least we. Especially in times like these and we express it through that through government so. HHS ticket to the -- I think of less than 1% if you take it each health out of AT tests and just focus on health care. I think it was less than 2%. Through services like. Services for the developmentally. Disabled. Or in the clubhouse programs -- things like Edward M it work programs for. After people with disabilities where we're preserve not the funding was adequate to begin. -- just say that we're preserved and we protected local aid because. Municipal services are enormously important to people and if we cut it just puts more pressure on the property tax is too much pressure on the property tax it. Now our long term strategy frankly our medium and meet in short term strategy is job growth we need jobs more jobs. And it starts to solve a lot of things in people's homes. And in municipal and state government. As well the areas we've been focusing on the life sciences. Clean tech sector IT. I which I mean the new IT you know. Video game developing in robotics and mobile telecommunications. Also health care and education those of the sectors and in focus on and they are going and that's very good news they will lead the commonwealth this. -- that recession stronger and faster. In the rest of the rest of the country we have a lot more work to do. In that respect and and government can't do it alone or even mostly which is why we Indian economic summit immediate and business leaders from all around the commonwealth partnering with us. And I can I just want of course one of the things it was still interesting that came out of net debt out of that session. When folks we've done that in the brainstorming sessions that things we can collaborate on. One of the key takeaways with invest in education because it's our age we highly educated workforce. Here we have an opportunity with a couple of bills that are pending in the yet. In the legislature to release or to get at the achievement gap kids who left behind kids in poverty. Who speak English as a second language you're. Live learning disabilities. Kids that color. And frankly it also best positions us for it. Stimulus funds so called race to the based of the top ones who really like it that moved in the in the business community I think is part and I know. Has committed department witness trying to get those bills moved."

" And one category employee didn't mention was destination casinos I don't support despite I can't stand the whole casino thing having said that -- The governor supports the speaker of the house now apparently supports it who we didn't and to -- pre. Indictment didn't supporter he's going to Leo does set a president does -- all do you support. And obviously we're in dire need of money even though the industries and venture -- in the sum upfront fees. When we just do it while we wait until January or February if you guys the three leaders say this is direction we -- ago."

" Well -- tell you. Crystal. I think we have a general agreement on the direction we ought to go in but by no means is the agreement. On exactly what contours -- undertaken is a lot of room for discussion this isn't he's. This is not simple you know for the same reasons I think game. You oppose it."

" I have my own this game."

" Members of the net of the legislature has been around and ski races that simple in some respects it's the worst time Frist and a debate about. Expanded -- twin -- declared bankruptcy slot revenues down without that -- that's that's not the reason I say because I think they're all kinds of businesses you know my justice the gaps in the Trenton bureau Kansas businesses that are not doing very well right now you don't -- you know as I am not gonna talk about those businesses because they're not doing it will right now. I mean the real estate business isn't doing well right now but we're not gonna say we don't wanna have another real estate company commented -- that's my point is that them. That the."

" I don't want anybody in the legislature. Should be thinking of that expanded gaming as -- fix oh."

" For the fiscal challenges facing the -- it's not."

" It's not it's another."

" creating opportunity."

" Which has to be done right and because there are real human costs. That has to be. Because your real human costs we have to be very very clear and careful."

" About the regulatory framework that it is is comes. Comes in but there will be casinos and masters or after the ministry I right wing that remains to be seen I mean you know get their legislatures that they don't wanna take it up until. Until January and we have had we've the Senate presents the speaker."

" It hit the area east substantive conversation and then you know that was hearing the last week is it is hearing last week."

" Dan in the in the legislature and they were pro and con. Voices and the administration expressed here. Expressed our view and Dan. You know from the."

" I'm glad the government's human cost because it was a little known but in -- in fact it to him."

" Mentioning my ties -- was it was carried out horizontal."

" That last that was also record and the governor."

" He knows the gutter -- he's four. Eventually our goals -- an independent country. Do that we're gonna get the swine flu and flyers more reserved before we go we vote for in the democratic primary if your son thank you it's a secret -- thank you for your next. I have a lot of friends in this race I do intend."

" It's your friends you took a neutral position in the mayor's race the one arguably one of the most powerful guys and a masters that dominate you know you're running for reelection. Why didn't you endorse your body or your colleague here's some dominate you know."

" Well I talked to Tom last thing he was just its real goal. Of cool stuff. I talked to Tom on a regular bases may -- we have great working a great working relationship with the two Democrats in -- in that race. And I am a Democrat and I -- respect and respect and you know we had I had a bunch of friends. And supporters running in races all -- although the commonwealth it was very tempting to get. To get in but you know it's piece of advice I got from. -- from Senator Kennedy which is that. As much as possible stay out of contested primary."

" Okay you're getting back with Governor Patrick and all your calls talk little politics with him as well stay tuned to pitch in and -- show. And 969 Boston talks."

" Welcome back good morning news that got married and six point nine WTKK. -- end here. Sheehan and mark."

" You won't go back. The calls Shana is calling from Taiwan China you there special."

" I governor that -- and I can't at least on. That for my -- apart that the work but I'm lucky connectors on governor I want to ask you. They're not -- a lot of dissatisfaction. And our state legislature lately and I can right to be an understatement. And a lot of that is geared to the fact that they're not enacting. The reforms. The people -- I think you that you want him you know an -- fiction pension and ended different areas. And I'm definitely not forced to do that because there's such had a concentration. On the warm hearty yeah. But I'm wondering is it you'd saying Massachusetts would benefit. And yet you would like to see a more even to parties legislature he -- it would be some more accountability. Some more ideas from the opposition card that would help because hitters. And are."

" what a great question first of all in fairness to them. To the legislature's. You know we've had some amazing. Results in terms of the reform agenda in just the last twelve months or so we've we have reform the pension system."

" Out you know I don't mean to interrupt declined to say I know that they did some pension reform package and as a that was that. We used little bit and."

" Although not actually not should I I I would just dead respectfully differ with you and that is another chapter that has to come that there were some big things done you know that. The so called king for a date rules 23 years and now rules some of the things that were. Long standing. Prerogatives and privileges. State workers and some of the most glaring you know some of the ones that have become. Symbols. Of excess in self dealing and on Beacon Hill are gone now and that is huge. And by the way unanimous votes. And the same is true on ethics and and lobbying reform. We reformed transportation. A system which was a huge lift particularly given. The ways in which some of those agencies had been a refuge for patronage for a long long time that is at a reached now. Forum for the legislature so in fairness now I think that sometimes because. Strength of the argument. Isn't always enough to move the agenda that we end up having to fight over things that seem so popular and so. Commonsensical. To use -- and and others that folks say well you know a pox on all their house. But. In fairness you know we're not gonna agree on on everything but those things and got -- and other reforms and beyond is more work to do to be sure. Now to the point about about. About party -- and promises coming now always say and Democrats in -- when I when I -- I don't think the dynamic. In Massachusetts politics is Democrat Republican it's I know that's the usual thing. The dynamic messages politics is I experienced it is insiders and outsiders. And then there are."

" Very inside they -- parties. -- and that they know how to take care."

" Bear interest and their needs. They're people I deal with 10-Q with the governors -- it and Republicans they know. How to get what they need from the from the governor's office my job. My did you. Is to pay attention to everybody else and that's -- difference -- bring to the to adapt so I like the idea that more and more people on."

" Are getting interested in running now for office in competing."

" For office he sighed in all these local races actually admissible. Out races all kinds of new folks were. Which candidates some of them successful -- some of the nine but I think that this notion of civic engagement."

" If people need to see their stake in the Pacific life -- give some time to it -- even stand as a candidate if they are are willing is enormously important."

" To the strength of our democracy and probably more important to respect your question and that and that's a partisan."

" Your vote Republican."

" Well it's over those elections are over."

" Is -- to the questioning president thank you -- of politics and in Massachusetts."

" You -- Barack Obama in -- and to helping you refineries which must have been quite. Yet. But Barack Obama was just going elsewhere in -- people in in New Jersey and in and the January of course the Democrats did not when they're Republicans prevail now and I don't know compare."

" I don't where you go into question okay EB budget now in comparison here okay fine but. Many opponents of -- upon -- people like myself saying this does not bode well for the present nine states with about politics of these races."

" Well first I've I and I didn't follow that Virginia recently closed CFOs injuries injuries -- that Jon Corzine is it is in a friend and and a coach and really terrific he is when a handful of us who were Korea item. On the education piece of the stimulus package you would never run had focused challenged big belly flop."

" that was like all in December about his opponent to do one Christie's overweight and Corzine runs these -- at. That -- motion with the guys stomach going back and forth -- he's throwing his weight around in any case now argument is that going to get fed and finally you know found that. That was probably the product of."

" So. But no look I think him I think if the question. At a funeral we're always looking at like. We electing Greeks the ancient Greeks reading the -- you know -- weeks --"

" Late in animal and then we spread their intestines anything that what does this mean for the for the future you know what it means for the future you know a year. Is a long time. The folks make -- judgment."

" In New Jersey and Virginia I respect that and by the way I will respect whatever judgment they make here and in Massachusetts I I have I'm offering."

" Arcadia a reform agenda which is bound to make people -- because change always. Depth. And and it has also provoked. As it will. Even some of my friends and supporters because it's like they thought we thought -- net change for the AM."

" Not for a not for us right I get that and I and they are worthy challengers in this in this race with very very different values."

" Very very different philosophies about what the role of government used lower should be that's what campaign should be about. I was thrilled to have the president here because I haven't been doing this salon."

" That it doesn't."

" Really make me feel incredibly home. To have the president of the United States you come. And for him to onion -- another magnanimous. And in -- and he was so. Clear about how. About the kinds of transfer transformations he's trying to do. At the national level being modeled so -- on what we're trying to do here in in the commonwealth and we are held in front on health care."

" leading the nation we are out in front on clean energy clean tech we -- leading the nation."

" And their whole host of you know on broad being an expansion so we started it before the stimulus package. Was that was passed and the president and needed a -- a priority and I am proud of that I think the people of Massachusetts beat that."

" Did you really Easter right next year right held easily his arms I don't want to get out of smoke so I thought. Go to Patrick we are very come."

" No bigger look anyways they you know I'm just a fun. -- trouble politically hamsters foreign commons yesterday gets wiped out Oval Office was that will learn out of -- river's North Adams slight Lorenz Brockton when Iraq cameras on Lawrence. That your numbers are not so hot these recent polls -- just made an explanation to every year they get this whole thing together are you at risk."

" I take nothing for granted. And me and -- the change -- it's -- inherently. I knew that may be members of the public generally it may be the you know maybe. Pundits didn't that I knew and -- but it's still I think it's worthy. And -- we gonna keep every day. Trying to do the right thing and leading buying. I've addicts and there are values that we years that the they're different between me in the yet."

" And the challenges I happen to believe is of value. In investing in public education I think is -- value."

" In trying to expand. Health care I think there's a value."

" In investing in roads and bridges and rails and so forth instead of ignoring it like have been doing for a."

" Almost almost two decades you -- I don't know stuff not -- not all those things are gonna turn into that. You know immediate. You flashy. Rally -- you know frankly whoever surge in the next four years -- somebody else gonna have a lot of good news. To elect to celebrate because of decisions that we made and issues we confronted in these in mr. did you read."

" Critical editorials and confidence about you do you read this and -- on the go over the -- the world other paper and trash and I can't you read it."

" I've I've I've frankly I don't read a whole lot of press about myself I get briefed about what's out there Hollister thing that I figured. You know. The bad stuff will hurt your feelings the good stuff from Cody did better just to focus on."

" What you need here's an email from James -- from Boston governor read through during short -- to -- actually has been -- part of it -- and is would you please reconsider your proposal installed cameras and intersections throughout the commonwealth and hopes of -- generating more revenues your words not mine says James why are you hiding this within your budget proposal rather initiating a bill -- be voted on by -- percent is James from Boston -- James."

" Respond not hiding anything anyway it's not I don't. The the whole point of that their proposal is to let local communities decide it's something that municipalities have been asking for for some while. For reasons of efficiency and also risk revenue and also for public safety. And yet increasingly I think we at the state level have got to step back and give local communities the control over the -- destiny. That's what the that's -- giving them the authority to use it to do them. -- you know meals and resident and hotel. I taxes that it's of that with the with giving them the man in removing that exemption on the on the telephone poles and and Myers. It's about. Letting them move the and under performing local pension program into this into the states has until they don't have to continues. Pay money for that. 70% of the legislature's. Business right now our so called. Home rule petition. Local things. With some town has become an ask the legislature if they can move their town meeting to Tuesday instead of Wednesday. You know candidate. And they asked the -- in your town manager to serve one year beyond the contract but he they are six must be on the -- become. So that thank you very much James fear for your question but the point -- I think in this and a whole host of things we need to step back as the state. And as much as possible -- community drive their own future and make it does it."

" Okay we get a quick break we'll be back with all your calls and questions and if you write email system we have he's giving tortured to email us. The Governor Deval Patrick and."

" Winning your -- on this. --"

" FM and be lucky Kate and can we go back that we may entities let's see. Doug is calling from policy in the morning --"

" Africa and accurate -- Michael should. I am shocked I didn't hear a lot of this great merger of the new DOT. And all of the devastating agencies that are being wrapped into that. I'm curious and public sectors -- the only factor in the government -- or and that Stater Nugent is growing jobs right now. How many jobs. -- gonna get eliminated in this merger if say six months -- that there's two or three year it happens to student loans because smarter."

" First -- and state government isn't growing jobs and state government is smaller today than when I took office idea and and will. She had even more jabs right now -- that I would just point out that you may be one of those folks who win them. State governments -- you know when a factory. Lays -- a thousand PP's they would a tragedy. When state government lays out a thousand people easily good in had a case. You know their families affected their livelihoods. Affected and and your service. Affected so I would ask. Those who say that sort of thing when that when the jabs go in the people leave don't let me also here use. Have you know. Expect or demand the same level of service because it's a real is a real impact it will be job Los in the transportation mergers well. Those are some of the efficiencies we have to capture you know right now we have them. Our until I'm. -- that the new it transportation organization we have one set of crews who were. Plowing roads on now on the highways and different city crews were plowing roads on the turnpike by the way sometimes paid a different rate. -- acquisition of via of -- salt and sand was different and that and the yen and what was paid for it was different. I mean that -- and I absolutely mean it spirit there are things that like gallon. Like at right now or not -- him before them the the merger. Under certain agreements if you worked. In one section of road. You could not be redeployed to another section of the of the road or another part of the commonwealth to deal with a problem. -- mission a reason I think you could not do. And they are all kinds of inefficiencies and built in -- so as the integration. Happens and it's on schedule. Very much -- As the integration. Happens we begin to pick up those efficiencies we need fewer people and the payrolls. Will come down but the idea is to get the payroll and the service. In the right in the right now -- take."

" Doug thank you political you know you're talking about the highways -- in my tensions courses the slackers a document that it has been on the show yet and there is a website that people can go to find out where the flags at that before you blessed -- my --"

" know until -- yeah I -- I didn't -- wanna find out where the players are deployed on state project using one time and see what's let's. Arnold here wolf find out and -- it kinda messed messed that gov slash. EO TOK mass dot gov slash is -- just inherently honey we had a big expose say on that flag that we found in Oxford. In in the they would call to -- convicted sex offender -- apparently called her of flak here -- should we be concerned about the perfect."

" Level three sex offenders the guy they don't flags on main street I. IPod and I set you know I don't know if he is that he can it was conditional in in 1985. He can be a fighter and the cops the position please the -- people -- that's one of the reasons why police details makes sense you don't have that kind of situation how do you plead."

" I I present well I think I -- right that this flag it was on a local project and that money state promiscuous and I don't I don't actually have to have an opinion and opinion of that there. But this but if I understood it -- from when I. From what I read in the papers. The reason the issue was that he hadn't registered in Oxford because -- he was having to."

" Frankly I thought it was ridiculous -- should we just complaining that he was there I think that was that he admitted that he was and he was there enough hours -- to register -- unity some might even be right -- that I thought the issue what people were complaining that he was a sex offender as the -- or at least got the fluorescent jacket has got a flat. On the route I was gonna be sex -- it -- designed to look back in nineteen."

" The threshold issue before people go to your Wesley go over the world police flyers are out on the roads -- I don't have the number you know frankly. Road projects winding down right now so this season passes its seasonal work. But them. But the use of slackers on on state and practices -- meaningful now mind you it's state tragic -- doing all the construction at the on the on the relatively local community mean that he's an annual team on statement in which the A public safety. It should it is speed traffic officer Mr. Bush. External spectacles and Governor Deval Patrick Etsy and is calling from Carlisle Andy still holding."

" good morning governor. I have a question I've heard about all the sacrifices the government workers are making and I'm totally. And sympathy with that however yesterday I heard a text. Her mother to line and this guy will have thirteen PC support for their children attacked in that. Do budget and I'd like you know its status treks because as a social worker -- know that this will mean the difference between. He housing and a lot of other things even a few hundred don't want to these families."

" And is it is that a federal -- you're talking that are state. A state. As I we we did our level best to do. As little damage. Two -- human services less and less than 2%. I don't have been at my fingertips but if you hang on the game. And we can follow the Chris -- like Christian we'll take your phone number we'll give it to the governor's office thank you kindly for cool thanks for the question. Governor should just keep going -- okay. John was calling from -- John you my job."

" I governor Pataki. My original question was who is had to do with. With the this new report about that peaked yet and they're deferred maintenance. And and how how -- that the that it's -- I think that because of the beast -- vote disparity in transparency at some of these authority. That we can get it to this type of position and hopefully that new Department of Transportation is the evaded Vietnam in the party where again -- The legislature can you know keeping that there are about like -- say that you know that really gets good thing about it. But it. How hot it's and it's think that would hopefully -- there -- Gupta without relied dispute expectant and New York economic expansion protect its history that. We can continually all these deferred maintenance. Spread across you know whether it's state. Local and municipal governments yes but at the same time. When needed when they're when they're -- out there -- bitter budget every year you're looking at well we're gonna give raises to the unions but. That the threat than they look at that. The first -- that the that it would not for another day."

" Yeah well John you know it it's it US a question that has the answer in it which is to say we bin be just been looking the other way. At some of these being challenges for a long long time and I think one of them one of the reasons. That bad has happened in administrations before -- come before I've been yours is that you don't get a lot of political reward. For dealing with the hard. Questions that require time an effort and focus and a lack of glamour. -- to solve and I think what we get from from David goes on does a report frankly something I had asked for before and couldn't get."

" Until now. Which is some truth. About what we're actually dealing with the scale and scope of it."

" That contours of a sort of the specifics. Bad and that's what you must have in order to build a plan to."

" To solve and it's gonna take sometimes no doubt that."

" and things we have to do in the short run some things need to do in the median medium and and long run. But this is what I you know the term that I sometimes use and lieutenant governor uses a lot Iran this isn't is generational responsibility. That we have. A responsibility. All of us not just the governor and not just in government but all of us. Heavy responsibility. To do what's right to gay for the next generation because that is what made the good life with a better life for us that another generation. Made that same the same -- at that same sense of sacrifice that same sense of investment. In. Yeah in the greater good."

" Hey I thank you your call governor swine flu Marjorie is an abject panic every don't know children. They hear mostly she would need to shake my -- now I can teach it as governor czar was about the flag Arizona has a swine flu. The most recent reports are Brennaman -- to speak were not getting as many doses as we expected delayed several weeks inmates at the prisons are getting -- before real people what's the state of the -- religious and -- inmate before real people. Yes inmates getting other Boston Herald or people we are sure they are -- have been on from Bristol from Bristol look alienate you know I understand but I mean on inmate population it's offensive to a lot of people inmates are getting at before people haven't committed crimes are getting what is the state. Of these delivery and availability of swine flu -- for the general partly."

" Shall Frist on Massachusetts's in the same boat is every other state in the -- in the nation it had been production delays. -- in getting the the flu. Virus that he's -- the flu vaccine. That is separate -- from the Tamiflu that is not an -- And it's separate also from the regular flu. Vaccine which -- Seems -- tenth which is that the drugs used to treat the swine flu or other. Eight when in one another and other foods -- that is the -- when in one exe. And we're getting our allotment and we get you know lots and lots every year every -- to 400000 doses we have. We've received we get our share with everybody else every week and I and and in the next several we will have enough the next several weeks it. We'll have enough for everybody to get to to get vaccinated. The Centers for Disease Control which is the federal. Public health agency has a protocol about whom to. How vulnerable populations of people in environments. Thinking that is argued that -- interest rates that goes into why. That population it. At some others now. Can I just. -- one more were -- or anyone has because that it's it's important that people know that there's some precautions. That we can take even if you don't have -- I have not been unvaccinated and that in. You know in the high risk -- we might turn. But in the meantime I wash my hands -- If I cough or sneeze cough and available. What you -- on."

" It is you know you -- you coughed into that are a sneeze into a teaches he threw away and you use your elbow and that's what it is like -- I saw the Microsoft before the governors try -- in that particular -- it smells freshening. " One last question for go to everybody's in a book about this and just got to confront it right up what's your Livermore national organ. Sorry what I can remember it that he beat on us again."
